Electrical Engineer

Status: Full-time, Permanent

Location: Montreal (VSL)

Job Description: Part of the Mechanical Engineering, Product Development team the Electrical Engineer develops and maintains all electrical portions of the products except controls. This includes component selection, panel layout, and schematics. Another responsibility for this role is obtaining code agency listing for new products and maintaining listings for existing products.

Role and Responsibilities:

  • Design electrical schematic for HVAC system
  • Design industrial control panel layouts(2D/3D)
  • Select electrical components for New Designs
  • Select alternative electrical components from new suppliers
  • Collaborate with Controls to select suitable sensors
  • Obtain Agency Approval Listing for New Designs
  • Maintain Agency Approval Listings for Existing Designs
  • Address Non-Compliance Issues During Agency Approval Inspections
  • Participate in prototype Development and Testing
  • Create initial electrical BOM for new designs
  • Document design rules & criteria in Design Intent Manual
  • Generate parameter setting manual for devices such as VFD, temp./press. controllers etc.
  • Provide support for production & testing in solving technical problems
  • Other duties and responsibilities as assigned

Education and Experience:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering
  • Member of OIQ
  • 3-5 years of relevant experience
  • Experience with PLC control applicatio.
  • Knowledge of mechanical and electrical design software such as AutoCAD Electrical, Autodesk Inventor
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office Products
  • Familiar with power distribution systems and components
  • Knowledge of Electrical circuit protection & controls
  • Up to date knowledge of electrical safety standards
  • Familiar with different types of motor starters
  • Knowledge of HVAC system is an asset
  • Knowledge of refrigeration system is an asset
  • Knowledge of manufacturing software is an asset
  • Fluent in English and working proficiency in French
  • Able to manage multiple projects simultaneously, prioritizing to meet each deadline
  • Excellent communication and technical writing skills to be able to explain concepts clearly and concisely to colleagues and for production documentation
  • A team player who can work in a fast-paced environment, take leadership on tasks when it is necessary
  • Creative thinking and problem-solving skills
  • Able to travel occasionally to other manufacturing plants (Ottawa, Ontario and York, Pennsylvania)
